Three simple home exercises you should incorporate in your routine

By Kim, 16 August, 2010, No Comment

The main reason why many people choose to do exercise at home is not because they are staying to keep fit and healthy but because they realize they are gaining weight and want to keep it down. Even if you are not seeing signs of weight gain, it is important to have home exercises in your schedule at least three times a week in order to keep fit, maintain a healthy lifestyle and generally a strong body. There are a number of simple yet effective workouts that you can incorporate in your home exercise routine to transform your life and body within a short time. These exercises work best when combined with proper diet and some exercising equipment.

Workout 1: jogging with walking intervals – This is one of the simplest exercises that you can even do every day. Be on your track suit and do jogging for about 100 yards and a walk of 20 yards. Cover half a mile in one session and the exercise will make your body healthier and stronger than before.
Workout 2: Jumping rope– You can do three sets of 100 jumps using a rope. It is important to complete all reps and sets before resting otherwise the whole idea of jumping will be diluted. You should take a few seconds to one minute to recover between sets. Doing this exercise three times a week will help a lot but since they are simple home exercises, there is no harm doing them every day.
Workout 3: Stretching – Stretching can be done on competition of other exercises. Stretches should target most of the body muscles especially those on the arms, legs, torso and back. Your stretches should last for between 3 to 5 minutes at the start but when you get used to them, they can last as long as 10 to 15 minutes a day.

Shopping for Treadmills

By Kim, 10 August, 2010, No Comment

Travelling long distances from your home or work to your health spa or fitness club is not an easy thing to do each morning, or evening especially when you are tired or have a long day with a lot of activity in front of you. The distance alone and transportation will put a hole in your pocket financially, and if we add the gym’s membership to that then you will pay a small fortune monthly. A simple cheap portable treadmill for your home will make a great long term investment and you will benefit also from the reduced price of the initial transaction, because you will buy it once and have it for years. You will be able to access it at any time, and set your own workout routines according to your schedule.

Many treadmill models exist on the market but from those you should be very careful which one you choose to suit your personal needs. The price alone makes a big difference in the purchase. The cheapest treadmills available are the manual folding devices. The treadmill comes without a motor and the display panel is pretty old school, being limited to showing only the time, the distance traveled, and possibly if you are extremely lucky a pulse monitor. The best advantage for a machine of this sort is the cost, which remains around $100. The machine itself doesn’t take up too much space and thus you can easily store it the corner of your room, or under your bed. A manual folding treadmill doesn’t have the same life span as a motorized treadmill and constant workouts on a manual treadmill will tear your knees and hip joints right off, leading to injuries due to the heavy amount of force necessary.

A cheap treadmill can be found at a second hand shop. Purchasing a used treadmill may have many benefits when it comes to money saving. You can ask some clubs if they have some equipment they are willing to sell, and they will sell it to you if they are looking to get some new hardware. You shouldn’t expect to locate a treadmill that costs over $1000 for just a couple of hundred dollars. Break the cycle by not paying gym monthly fees but instead purchase a cheap treadmill for your home.

Jump Higher Surefire Facts

By Kim, 8 August, 2010, No Comment

There are so many jump programs out there these days. Then again, there are only a select few which can truly help athletes to jump high considerably. In line with that, there are also many shops (virtual stores as well) that sells jump shoes/soles, jump machines and the like and up to this very day, there is still much debate regarding the effectiveness of such item/s. You see, if you really want to give your jump height that added boost, how to jump higher exercises are still your best option and there are several reasons as to why is that. Read on further to find out why.

First of, not all people have the money to buy certain equipments and machines. In terms of going to gyms and fitness clubs to workout, you will have very limited time to workout and use the equipment since there will be others who will want to make use of such equipment/s as well. Most often than not, you will have to wait in long lines. Another thing is that, the effectiveness of these machines when it comes to developing one’s vertical jump is also not yet proven.

Jump soles/shoes on the other hand are quite effective. Athletes have found themselves able to jump higher using jump shoes and soles all because of the fact that they are a bit heavy and what they do is trick your muscles and make them think and feel as if they are a lot stronger than they originally are. When you perform your workout routines using these shoes and soles, you are bound to see great results. However, their effects will slow down and dissipate the instance your muscles get used to them or you stop using them altogether.

Jump higher exercises or plyometric training exercises to be more specific are your best bet if you want to acquire permanent results. These exercises together with proper nutrition will promote optimum muscle growth and greatly increase your jumping ability.

Answering Your Perimenopause Questions

By Kim, 1 August, 2010, No Comment

Definition

The menopause process is comprised of three separate phases: perimenopause, menopause and post menopause. Perimenopause usually begins 5 – 7 years before menopause when a woman’s fertility ends. Perimenopause can occur naturally as early as the early to mid 30s, but for most women this phase doesn’t start until the mid 40s. It’s during perimenopause that estrogen and progesterone levels slowly begin to decline and with this decline comes a slow loss of fertility. At times hormone production can be higher than normal while at other times it may be lower than normal; it’s these hormonal imbalances that cause all the symptoms associated with menopause.

Pregnancy

Ovulation is when a woman’s body drops eggs to possibly be fertilized. Since estrogen and progesterone are the hormones that are responsible for regulating ovulation, a decrease in these hormones will make it harder to conceive. Prior to perimenopause, women menstruate and ovulate every month, but during perimenopause there will be months with no bleeding or ovulation. During the months that ovulation occurs, it is possible to get pregnant, while during months where ovulation doesn’t occur, it is not possible to get pregnant.

There are hormone tests that your doctor can run to tell you where you are in the menopause process and what your chances of conceiving are.

Perimenopause Symptoms

The symptoms of perimenopause are exactly the same as those experienced during menopause:

  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Loss of libido
  • Unwanted facial hair
  • Thinning hair
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Accidental bladder leakage
  • Tinnitus (ear ringing)
  • Formication (sensation of things crawling on or under the skin)
  • Irregular periods
  • Loss of fertility
  • Osteoporosis
  • Mood swings
  • Trouble concentrating

Once menopause is reached and a woman is then considered postmenopausal, menopause related symptoms will eventually clear up, usually within 5 years or less.

Treatment

Perimenopause and menopause are considered a natural part of the aging process and require no medical treatment. However if symptoms get bad enough to impact day to day living then treatment may become necessary. Visit Signs of Menopause Guide for articles about natural treatment options, HRT, menopause and perimenopause.

Following The Right Acid Reflux Diet

By Kim, 28 July, 2010, No Comment

Acid reflux or in more common terms heartburn, is a digestive problem wherein the contents of the stomach like partially digested foods and acids reenters the esophagus or gullet. This is a condition that is suffered by many and is also known in the medical community as GERD or Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease. There are many signs and symptoms that are associated with this type of condition and these include dysphagia or painful sensation when swallowing, burning sensation along the chest, stomach and throat, dental erosion, hoarseness, acidic taste in the mouth (especially after burping) and frequent dry coughs.

Then again, the good thing about all of this is that acid reflux can be treated with the use of simple approaches and without resolving to prescription drugs, pills or whatever. One of the best home remedies for acid reflux is employing an acid reflux diet. Written below is a list of the foods that must be included in your very own reflux disease diet in their respective categories.

Vegetables – Peas, carrots, green beans, cabbages and broccoli comes highly recommended. If it happens that your case is not that severe, you can include little amounts of onions and garlic to your meals. However, potato salad, mashed potatoes, French fries, greasy, spicy and deep fried foods must be avoided at all cost.

Fruits – Pineapples and papayas and deemed beneficial since such fruits are packed with enzymes and can help neutralize the acidity levels of the stomach. Bananas as well as apples are also great for you. Certain types of berries such as strawberries, raspberries, cranberries and blueberries can be taken, but only in a minimum.

Meats – When it comes to meats, it generally depends on how they are prepared. Chicken breast, fish are deemed safe. Fried or scrambled eggs, fried fish, tuna sandwich or salad can be taken so long as they are consumed in moderate quantities.

Beverages – Water is your best option. Aerated, sugary and caffeinated drinks are considered bad. Alcoholic beverages should also be avoided.

5 Things to Avoid When You Buy Cheap Road Bikes Second Hand

By Kim, 24 July, 2010, No Comment

It makes great sense to buy a bike, full stop.  Better for you, better for the environment, better for your wallet.

But after all the costs have been taken out for the extras – maintenance equipment, storage, road bike cycling clothing and shoes – you could already be down a fair percentage of your original budget.  In the UK, set aside £1000 for a bike and equipment, and you might need to lower your sights to £800, because of the £200 equipment cost, and that’s going for cheaper extras.

So opting for a cheaper bike is a good idea.  And the cheapest option of all is second hand.  But what should you watch for?

Bikes get stolen in the UK. 1200 everyday.  So don’t get caught buying stolen goods.  Go to a reputable dealer.  Be very careful buying from internet auction sites.  Check for evidence that postcodes and marks have been removed or scratched out.

The bike could have been involved in a crash.  Check carefully for bent frames, or cracks in the main frame.

Also, welding should be neat, but because of trends in style could be really visible.  Few bikes now seem to have neat welds, though very expensive ones do/  Check in hard to reach places that the welds are still good and show no evidence of cracking.

Any broken components that need replacing will soon add more to your bottom line.  Check all components (brakes, bar tape, pedals etc) very carefully to see what you might have to be replacing on your fixer-upper.

Check the wheels carefully.  Are there any loose spokes?  Are there dents in the rims?  Look at the point where the wheel runs through the brakes: can you see a wobble indicating the wheel need truing?  Not a deal breaker, but if you can avoid it, do, or barter down.

So yes, buying second had works well to get you a good deal on cheap road bikes.  But don’t get caught out with a piece of junk you never want to ride.

Treating My Hemorrhoids

By Kim, 13 July, 2010, No Comment

A couple weeks ago I started experiencing a little anal bleeding. Since I’m not over 50, I haven’t started getting regular colonoscopies. I have no family history of colon cancer, so I wasn’t overly worried, but I know all about the potential dangers of ignoring symptoms, so I set up an appointment with my doctor and got the dreaded exam. I strongly recommend that anyone with anal pain, bleeding, itching or swelling around the anal region get examined by a doctor. The reason an exam is essential is to rule out other colorectal diseases like colon cancer, these diseases are a lot more serious than colon cancer but have the same initial symptoms as hemroids. The colonoscopy wasn’t too bad. Prepping for it was unpleasant and it’s not something to look forward to, but it’s a necessary evil. Ever since people have started getting regular colonoscopies, survival rates from colon cancer have increased. Early diagnosing is the key to catching and treating health problems early and this translates into a better long term survival rate.

Once I was diagnosed with hemorrhoids like most other people, my next stop to learn how to get rid of hemorrhoids. I was lucky, my hemorrhoids are internal hemorrhoids and they were caught early before they had a chance to get worse. On the grading scale, my hemorrhoids doctor says mine are only a Grade I on a scale that goes up to IV. People with Grade IV hemorrhoids will have a lot more pain and discomfort; surgery may be their only option to get rid of their symptoms. Fortunately for me, since mine were caught early, my doctor says I can most likely avoid complications by making some dietary changes. I love my junk food, but my doctor says that by adding more fiber into my diet, I can limit my symptoms and may be able to reduce my hemorrhoids to the point they won’t cause me any more problems.

Thankfully I didn’t wait to visit a doctor. By not ignoring my symptoms I’m making changing today to make sure my hemorrhoids don’t get worse.

A Natural Cure For Tennis Elbow

By Kim, 9 June, 2010, No Comment

Do you have an injury that is getting you down? People sometimes don’t realise how hard it is when you have an injury that can affect your whole life. With tennis elbow, you can lose the use of your whole arm because you can’t bend it, you can lift anything with it, you can’t even push a handle down to open the door. Getting dressed can become a real struggle and simple, everyday tasks that were once so easy to you have suddenly become really hard. Soon you don’t just have tennis elbow but depression to go with it because of this restrictive lifestyle. Well it doesn’t have to be this way. There is a cure for tennis elbow and it doesn’t have to mean popping pills whenever you think the pain may come back. These natural cures work just as effectively and will help you to get better and back into the life you had.

One of the natural ways to help heal your tennis elbow is to do some simple elbow tendonitis exercises. Now I must stress at this point that if you do feel any extreme pain during these exercises then you should stop. This will only cause more damage to your elbow than you have already. SO to begin you should start by moving the arm at the shoulder joint. Twisting it around and around in circles to get the blood pumping through your arm. Then rotate your wrist around in circles clockwise, then anti-clockwise. If you feel happy you can go on to stretching your whole arm out. You don’t have to extend it fully straight away but if you extend it more and more each day then you can train your tendons back to their original state. Try not to do these exercises while under the influence of medication as you won’t know if you are really hurting yourself or not.

Water Has 0 Calories

By Kim, 15 May, 2010, No Comment

If we do not drink water headaches and increase in intensity and the risk of urinary infections and kidney stones increases too. Besides the action of “washing” the kidneys with water has several functions in the body including: the dissolution of mineral substances, distribution, lubrication and temperature regulation. One way to find out if you drink enough water is to control urine. If urine has an intense color, then you surely do not drink enough water. Normal urine should be light colored, straw-yellow. If it is clear that means you are drinking too much liquid.

Water cleans and accelerates the processes so if you are on a diet and you want to lose weight fast drink water throughout the day

The body should not be “bombarded” with a large amount of water all of a sudden but it is best to drink small amounts throughout the day. A large amount of water forces the kidneys and this may even lead to hyperhydration. A man died after he drank 21 pints of water in a few hours and every year people die from accidental over-consumption of water (especially those under the influence of Ecstasy and who fear they are not drinking enough fluids). To see how much water you have to drink a day go to quick weight loss center and ask for the opinion of an expert.

We need water all the time!

Most people realize they need water in summer because they sweat more, but not so many people are aware that the body is in great need of water to keep warm in the winter. The best way to illustrate this is through a parallel with cars. The radiator needs fluid no matter the weather. If we get dehydrated all cells suffer. Without enough water, the cells can not maintain and rebuild the body and waste products can not be eliminated. Water is an essential element of life, underlying health!
