The reason that I chose to buy one of the latest generation Amazon hand held reading devices was simply that the Kindle 3 price represented such good value for money. The price now (November 2010) is the same as when I got mine in the summer. To get your hands on the same Kindle that I have, the 6″ model with Wi-Fi and 3G costs $189.
This price may seem expensive if you think about the dollar amount. Indeed, I was thinking the same thing before I ordered mine. But there was one aspect of the Kindle reading system that made me view this gadget as a money saving device.
Did you know that there are nearly two million classic titles that Kindle users have access to for free? These are books that many of us think we will get round to reading someday. I decided that I had to seize the day to read them. The fact that I have only paid for one of the books that I have read since the summer goes to show that owning a Kindle can actually save you money.
Currently I am reading Crime and Punishment. In the case of the Kindle version, it is just as portable and easy to carry around as any much shorter novel. This would not be the case if I chose to read the physical book.
Of course, over time, the price of the Kindle will probably fall even further. This new model is cheaper now, at the end of 2010, than the Kindle 2 was at the start of the year. This really just comes down to the advancement of technology.
Over the coming years, Kindles will get better and cheaper. Therefore the longer you wait before you get one, the better the unit that you will be able to get. However, in the meantime you will be without a hand held reading device.
If you enjoy reading books, you should really take a closer look at what the Kindle can do.
