The US MOLLE Backpack (Modular Lightweight Load-Carrying Equipment) was made for use by the military, mostly the United States Army for the many things that they have to carry. It has many different pouches so it can hold a lot of items. It is made specifically for the United States Government.
The MOLLE is a heavy-duty backpack that will hold a lot of items. It is also very lightweight so that the weight of the Molle does not add to the weight of the items being carried.
Other companies have made outdoor equipment that has the Molle idea. There are many different
MOLLE systems available. The Natick snap uses a webbing strap that is reinforced by polyethylene and a “pushthedot” snap to add security. The Tactical Tailor developed the polymer clip as a Natick Snap alternative. The final variety of attachment is a strap that is tucked into a pack or vest, called “Weave and Tuck.”
The MOLLE backpack was not used a lot after its 1997 introduction until the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001. Then the troops began using it in Afghanistan and Iraq. It did get a lot of criticism stating that the external frame was too fragile. It was also stated that it could not carry a very heavy load. There were also a lot of lower back injuries reported due to the way the pack was mounted on the frame. The military had another backpack that was designed and stopped using the MOLLE backpack system.
The MOLLE backpack is currently sold in surplus stores and many sporting goods stores. It is used as a backpack for camping, hiking and hunting. It comes in many different colors and sizes. Some of the MOLLE backpacks are camouflage and some are solid colors. It is a heavy-duty backpack system that can also be heavy when fully loaded. It is best if the user make sure not to fill all of the pouches so that his or her back will be protected from injury.
