Recently someone told me she was employed by one employer for over 15 years and she earned a very good living. But, she felt ready to take action to realize a dream she had. People in her social circle, or family and friends, thought she was crazy to want to change careers when she already has a job that is very well paid and stable.
It is not rare that I hear such stories. These dream breakers are all too present. Many people are reluctant to take action because of what people in their surroundings will say or think. “They’ll think I fell on my head, I’m crazy!” If you think your friends will think so, perhaps it means that it is time that you should try to surround yourself with people who inspire you, who believe in you, no matter rain or shine.
Do not waste time trying to persuade those people who do not believe in you, otherwise you could come out frustrated and exhausted. Strengthen your dreams, commit yourself to your passion, your commitment to yourself. If you want to keep these people around you, you have two choices, I think. Either you keep your dreams for you as long as possible or you are sure to be a person with enough confidence in it so that the comments from your surroundings you flow like water on a duck’s back.
Perhaps you find it hard suggesting the possibility to get away from some people, but ask yourself the following questions:
- Do these people want what is best for you?
- Do these people KNOW what is best for you?
- Do they listen to you?
- Do they understand your hopes and dreams?
In the town where I live, as in many cities probably there is a friendly competition on the most beautiful landscaping. And you know what? The landscaping of the winners of each year does not contain any “weed”. Probably it is coated with any protection!
Protect your dreams!
