Following The Right Acid Reflux Diet

Acid reflux or in more common terms heartburn, is a digestive problem wherein the contents of the stomach like partially digested foods and acids reenters the esophagus or gullet. This is a condition that is suffered by many and is also known in the medical community as GERD or Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease. There are many signs and symptoms that are associated with this type of condition and these include dysphagia or painful sensation when swallowing, burning sensation along the chest, stomach and throat, dental erosion, hoarseness, acidic taste in the mouth (especially after burping) and frequent dry coughs.

Then again, the good thing about all of this is that acid reflux can be treated with the use of simple approaches and without resolving to prescription drugs, pills or whatever. One of the best home remedies for acid reflux is employing an acid reflux diet. Written below is a list of the foods that must be included in your very own reflux disease diet in their respective categories.

Vegetables – Peas, carrots, green beans, cabbages and broccoli comes highly recommended. If it happens that your case is not that severe, you can include little amounts of onions and garlic to your meals. However, potato salad, mashed potatoes, French fries, greasy, spicy and deep fried foods must be avoided at all cost.

Fruits – Pineapples and papayas and deemed beneficial since such fruits are packed with enzymes and can help neutralize the acidity levels of the stomach. Bananas as well as apples are also great for you. Certain types of berries such as strawberries, raspberries, cranberries and blueberries can be taken, but only in a minimum.

Meats – When it comes to meats, it generally depends on how they are prepared. Chicken breast, fish are deemed safe. Fried or scrambled eggs, fried fish, tuna sandwich or salad can be taken so long as they are consumed in moderate quantities.

Beverages – Water is your best option. Aerated, sugary and caffeinated drinks are considered bad. Alcoholic beverages should also be avoided.
