Matters Concerning Deep Fitted Sheets

By , 1 October, 2010, No Comment

There are some concerns relating to deep fitted sheets and some of them will be presented here. One of these concerns is whether you will need these sheets or not. Knowing whether there is a need for these sheets is very easy to evaluate and the only thing that you need is a ruler or tape measure. You can look for the tape measure in the house or if you don’t have one, check with your children because they might have a ruler.

With the ruler or tape measure in your hand, go to the bedroom and measure the mattress from the top to the bottom or vice versa. Make sure that you do not measure the boxspring since bed sheets are not placed over the boxspring. If you have pillow mattress or big poofy mattress, you can get a better measurement if you lay a large book on the top of the mattress and check where the book touches the ruler.

Once you have taken the measurements of the mattress, follow the general guidelines in purchasing new bed sheets. The normal sheet sets are good for mattresses with 6-12 inch thickness and deep fitted sheet sets are for mattresses with 12-20 inch thickness. There are extra deep pocket fitted sheets for mattresses whose thickness exceeds 20 inches.

It will be better if you check the bed sheets before you buy them and do not only rely on what was written on the package.

Another concern for homeowners is the budget. If you are financially constrained and for some reason you have a mattress that is so thick that your sheets do not fit, do not be despair. There is a cost-effective solution if only you are willing to spend time and energy on it. You can personally transform your old sheets into deep fitted sheets. This will be most effective if you have sewing machine and you know how to sew. All you need are elastic bands and fabric.

Ultimately, do not forget that deep fitted sheets are for convenience and not really a necessity. If you want to save and you can’t afford to spend on new sheets, you can make use of large regular sheets and tuck them around the corners of the mattresses. This will work well on small mattresses but might be difficult for huge ones.

These are only some of the matters concerning deep fitted sheets but hopefully are able to help you in one way or another.
