Treating My Hemorrhoids

A couple weeks ago I started experiencing a little anal bleeding. Since I’m not over 50, I haven’t started getting regular colonoscopies. I have no family history of colon cancer, so I wasn’t overly worried, but I know all about the potential dangers of ignoring symptoms, so I set up an appointment with my doctor and got the dreaded exam. I strongly recommend that anyone with anal pain, bleeding, itching or swelling around the anal region get examined by a doctor. The reason an exam is essential is to rule out other colorectal diseases like colon cancer, these diseases are a lot more serious than colon cancer but have the same initial symptoms as hemroids. The colonoscopy wasn’t too bad. Prepping for it was unpleasant and it’s not something to look forward to, but it’s a necessary evil. Ever since people have started getting regular colonoscopies, survival rates from colon cancer have increased. Early diagnosing is the key to catching and treating health problems early and this translates into a better long term survival rate.

Once I was diagnosed with hemorrhoids like most other people, my next stop to learn how to get rid of hemorrhoids. I was lucky, my hemorrhoids are internal hemorrhoids and they were caught early before they had a chance to get worse. On the grading scale, my hemorrhoids doctor says mine are only a Grade I on a scale that goes up to IV. People with Grade IV hemorrhoids will have a lot more pain and discomfort; surgery may be their only option to get rid of their symptoms. Fortunately for me, since mine were caught early, my doctor says I can most likely avoid complications by making some dietary changes. I love my junk food, but my doctor says that by adding more fiber into my diet, I can limit my symptoms and may be able to reduce my hemorrhoids to the point they won’t cause me any more problems.

Thankfully I didn’t wait to visit a doctor. By not ignoring my symptoms I’m making changing today to make sure my hemorrhoids don’t get worse.

Pruners And What They’re Used For

There are a number of different tools that you will need if you are going to complete the job of pruning. Twigs, stems and branches may all need to be cut, trimmed or lopped in a task that will continue all year round. Equipping yourself with a good set of hand pruners, tree saws, hedge shears and loppers will ensure that the job will be able to be done quickly and efficiently and with as little damage to the plants as possible.

In order to cut the smallest live branches you will need a pair of pruning shears, also known as hand pruners. These pruners are designed to cut small branches up to around ½ an inch in diameter. Apart from the different sizes in which they are available in, there are two main types of hand pruners: bypass hand pruners and anvil hand pruners.

Bypass pruners act like a pair of scissors and they have curved blades that perform precision cuts while inflicting a minimum of damage on the plant foliage left behind. Anvil pruners consist of a straight blade that closes on a blunt blade and these pruners are used for cutting old, woody twigs. It is recommended that you don’t use the anvil pruner on living plant stems.

When pruning has to be performed on branches that are high and out of reach the extension pruner should be used. This is a hand pruner that has been mounted on the end of a telescoping pole. The cutting blades are operated by pulling on a cord that is connected to the blades.

For the cutting of larger branches up to around an inch in diameter you should use a pair of loppers. Loppers are also available as bypass or anvil type cutters. There is a good chance that when using loppers there is going to be some damage caused to the bark of the tree.

A pruning saw provides you with a pruning solution for the larger branches that is less traumatic for the tree. A sharp pruning saw makes short work of small branches and causes less damage to the surrounding bark, leaving behind a clean wound.
