Some Natural Remedies for Gout

Gout occurs when too much uric acid has built up and then becomes crystallized in one’s blood, urine and bodily tissues. People afflicted with gout are not able to sufficiently break down and eliminate the uric acid from their bodies. They don’t have sufficient quantities of the enzyme known as uricase. Uric acid is the byproduct produced by the digestion of certain kinds of food. Among the symptoms of gout are very painful toes. Pain in the big toe is especially common. Gout may also be found in elbows, ankles, ears, or wrists, among other parts of the body. If gout is left untreated, serious kidney problems can arise, such as the development of kidney stones, or even kidney failure. There are a variety of drug treatments and natural remedies for gout.

Drug treatments involve using drugs such as allopurinol and colchicine to reduce the formation of the uric acid that causes gout to occur. The problem with these drugs is that they have quite severe side effects, including bruising, skin eruptions, nausea, hair loss, and vomiting.
For natural gout remedies, try Flamasil, vitamin C, and cherry juice. However, many scientists do not agree that these treatments really work.

A better approach for those who want a natural remedy is to greatly reduce the chance of gout developing in the first place, by changing the diet to reduce the consumption of certain foods and beverages that cause the amount of uric acid in the body to increase. These include anchovies, soft drinks, coffee, mushrooms, legumes, and shellfish. Avoiding obesity also makes gout considerably less likely to
