How to Choose a Leather Rug

By , 9 February, 2010, No Comment

When you have decided to buy a leather rug you will be faced with a lot of choice because there are a number of different types and styles not to mention different sizes and colors. Here are a few tips to help you select the best rug for you.

1. Consider the Style of Your Room

The style of your room must always be an important factor in making a choice about anything you will put in it. Of course, if your room is very plain and neutral any distinctive piece will be the perfect focal point (and leather rugs can be very distinctive). But if you have a particularly contemporary room or a particularly traditional room then you need to be faithful to that style. And in truth, most rooms have a leaning towards one thing or the other. Leather rugs in the shape of a cowhide in natural colors generally suit traditional rooms best whereas leather shag rugs, whatever the color but especially in funky modern colors, are definitely meant for modern interiors.

2. Consider Your Color Scheme

Most of these rugs are in natural colors of the cow hide and go well with natural colored color schemes but if you have a contemporary home then you may like to choose a dyed rug in a color to match. You may have to look a little harder to get a purple shag rug in leather but you will find one if you look around online.

3. Consider Rug Size and Placement

Think about how you will use your rug before deciding on the size. If it is to be a runner in your hall then settle on a size which is two feet narrow than your hall (leaving a foot at each side). If you will use your rug as a hearth rug measure the size of your hearth and make your rug a little smaller in width. If it is to be used at the center of a sitting area, decide whether the chairs will go in relation to the rug to find the best size. It is usually best if you can see the whole rug and that chairs are not placed half on the rug and half off.

Kitchen Curtains for Every Kitchen

By , 19 December, 2009, No Comment

Kitchens need to have something at their windows to finish off the kitchen properly otherwise you look like you are still in the middle of remodeling or redecorating. But will you be able to find the right curtains for your kitchen? You should not have too much trouble because there are kitchen curtains to suit any kitchen.

Country Kitchen

If you have a country style kitchen, then you will be well served by country style kitchen curtains which depict country scenes. There are curtains with farm yard animals such as cockerels and cows and curtains with pictures of summer flowers as well as fruit and vegetables. If you prefer not to have pictures on your curtains simple fabric curtains in gingham or plaid will do just as well. Most country kitchens are made of wood or have wooden trimming so look for warm colors for your curtains which go very well with natural materials.

Retro Kitchen

Retro kitchens are quite fun and getting the right curtains will add the perfect finishing touch. Depending on the era you are trying to imitate, you should be able to find kitchen curtains which are typical of the time. Look in books to find the right style and pattern and then do a search online as your local store is unlikely to carry a large enough range to have what you need.

Modern Kitchen

For a modern kitchen choose a simple style of curtain in a plain color which matches other items in the kitchen. Keep the headings very plain. Tab tops or tied tops are ideal for no fuss hanging.

High Tech Kitchen

You could follow the guidelines for a contemporary kitchen but you may also want to consider replacing kitchen curtains with metallic blinds. These will fit well into the high tech theme of your kitchen and will set your windows off a treat.
