If you have a large gathering on the horizon, right now is the time to start planning out how you’re going to bake all of that cake! There are tons of ways to get this job done, but in this post I want to share with you how I do it and why it works so well. Baking is something that many people enjoy doing, but when you have to cook enough for hundreds of people it can seem like a chore! Hopefully this post will help you break some of the monotony by being more efficient.
After you’ve figured out how many mouths you need to bake for you need to get the cake tins. Most people will use a sheet cake pan to get the job done, and that’s a really good idea. The size that you get depends on the occasion that you’re baking for and what types of decorations need to be done. If you just need a lot of cake, get a really big sheet pan. If you have to do decorations, it would be better to tier or stack the cake so less decoration has to be done.
If your oven is large enough, I recommend baking two cakes at once. These large cakes are going to take at least an hour to bake in the oven, so you’ll save a major chunk of time by baking two at once. If you can’t get two going at once, be sure to have two timers that you can use. Get the first cake into the oven, and get the next one going halfway into the first one’s cook time.
When decorating these cakes be sure that you do it all at once. It’s a pain to set up and break down all of your frosting tools, so if you can decorate them one after another you’ll save a ton of time and help make sure that they all get decorated. Don’t choose any decorations that are too elaborate or you’ll spend so much time decorating that you won’t finish.
Baking a ton of cake at once isn’t a tough job, but it takes patience and planning. Get all of your stuff together before hand and have a plan so that you don’t end up with a disaster and no cake to show for it!
